The Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Safety Association (NLCSA), in cooperation with the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WorkplaceNL), is pleased to advise that there will be no increase in the construction industry levy1 for 2026 – it will remain at 10 cents per $100 of assessable payroll. This allows the NLCSA to continue to deliver our programs and services to you, our members, at the lowest possible cost. The construction industry’s participation in the NLCSA’s programs has resulted in lower assessment rates for all employers, safer workplaces for workers and the prevention of thousands of workplace injuries.
WorkplaceNL’s 2026 average assessment rate for the construction industry remains stable at $1.93 per $100 of assessable payroll, which includes a temporary discount of $0.21. Individual employers’ rates will vary based on their industry group’s claims experience as well as their own. Full list of individual rates.
Effective January 1, 2026, the new maximum assessable earnings used to calculate WorkplaceNL assessments paid by employers will be $80,935 per worker.
Employers can earn PRIME refunds to lower their assessments while creating safer workplaces. Any construction company that achieves COR® Certification is recommended for a PRIME Refund, by the NLCSA. Effective September 2025, construction employers with less than 20 workers, who achieve SiteSafe Certification, will also be recommended for a PRIME Refund.
