SiteSafe Certification Program

SiteSafe Certification is NLCSA's health and safety certification program designed specifically for small construction employers in Newfoundland and Labrador with 1 to 19 employees who are not COR® certified. 

It offers a practical and accessible way for smaller companies to establish solid health and safety practices at their worksites. SiteSafe helps you build a solid foundation in workplace safety and demonstrate your commitment to protecting your crew and your company. 

As an added benefit, companies that achieve and maintain SiteSafe Certification by the end of the calendar year are put forward to WorkplaceNL for the PRIME Practice Refund, a 5% refund on your average annual assessments.

The Four Steps to Certification

Step 1: Application

Step 2: Complete or Verify Training

In Year-1 the company needs to verify that somebody at the company has completed two specific training courses: 

  • OHS Committee, WHS Representative and Designate Certification, Level 1 or Level 2. 
  • Construction Worker Safety 

These could have been previously completed, or newly completed, but the OHS Committee training needs to be valid and not expired. 

Step 3: Certification

Once the completion of the training has been verified, you will become SiteSafe Certified and you will:

  • Be added to the WorkplaceNL list of companies recommended for the PRIME Practice Refund for that current year. 
  • Receive a SiteSafe wall certificate, decals and hard hat stickers. 

Step 4: Maintenance

To maintain your certification there are ongoing training and documentation requirements, depending on the size of the company. 

Group 1 – Construction companies with 1–5 workers 

  • Year 1: OHS Committee/Worker Rep training + Construction Worker Safety course 
  • Year 2: Complete two additional safety courses
  • Year 3: Complete two more safety courses + submit some sample documentation
  • Year 4+: Ongoing training & documentation to maintain certification

Group 2 – Construction companies with 6–19 workers 

  • Year 1: OHS Committee/Worker Rep training + Construction Worker Safety course
  • Year 2: Complete two additional safety courses + submit some sample policies 
  • Year 3: Complete two more safety courses + submit some sample documentation
  • Year 4+: Ongoing training & documentation to maintain certification
