The Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Safety Association’s (NLCSA) Board of Directors have announced that Jackie Manuel, CEO, has decided to retire on December 1st, 2023.
“The Board is grateful for Jackie’s steadfast leadership over these past 19+ years,” says Board Chair Warrick Butler. “We are thankful for Jackie’s remarkable vision, passion and commitment to improving health and safety in the construction industry and in the province. Her enthusiasm and leadership will be greatly missed. On behalf of the many individuals that have made up the NLCSA Board of Directors over the past 19 years, I extend a heartfelt thank-you.”
Jackie joined the NLCSA in 2004 and she has led the Association to where we are today. Since that time, under her leadership, the construction industry has seen the Lost Time Injury rate more than cut in half and the average workers’ compensation assessment rate that employers pay is a fraction of what it was. In no small part, this is as a result of the 1200 organizations that were certified under the Certificate of Recognition® program and the 850,000 hours of training delivered to workers during Jackie’s tenure.
As Jackie has stated, “These last 19 years have been the highlight of my career. My colleagues at the NLCSA and our Board of Directors have worked tirelessly to make our industry a safer, healthier place to work; a direct result of that being countless injuries prevented and lives saved. It gives me great pride to know that I have been a part of this. I am confident that the NLCSA will continue to be the leader in advancing health and safety practices, standards and culture within the construction industry, here in Newfoundland and Labrador”.
The Board of Directors has activated its succession plan and will search diligently to find the best qualified candidate to succeed Jackie as our next CEO.
The staff, Board and industry partners feel privileged to have worked with Jackie and are enormously grateful for her many contributions to the organization, industry and province.
