Effective January 1, 2020, the NLCSA eliminated the “In Process” category from the Certificate of Recognition® (COR®) Program. This change to the COR® Program has also been adopted across the Atlantic Provinces.

The decision to eliminate the “In Process” category was based upon feedback from industry, specifically:

  • concerns that an “In Process” Letter of Good Standing may provide a false sense of security to purchasers who may believe that it signifies a greater level of OHS compliance than exists; and
  • the concern that that it created unfair competition for a company who is “In Process” to be able to compete for tenders with those companies who have fully implemented ongoing safety management system.

Companies who are currently active in the program will not be impacted by this change and all existing “In Process” Letters of Good Standing will be honoured until their expiry. The last “In Process” Letters will be expiring in November of 2020.

For companies who have never been involved in the COR® Program, they will be required to meet the “Audit Pending” criteria before being eligible for a Letter of Good Standing. This change came into effect on January 1, 2020.
