Employers have been receiving high pressure sales calls/emails from some companies offering Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System 2015 (WHMIS 2015) training that is aligned with the Global Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). Some of those high pressure calls/emails have even gone so far as to threaten that companies may be charged unless all employees are trained immediately in the new WHMIS system . It is sometimes difficult to tell which calls/emails are legitimate and which ones are scams.
As a means of clarifying the new requirement, phase in period, deadlines, etc., so that our members can be better informed, NLCSA has prepared a fact sheet concerning the WHMIS 2015 GHS training requirements to help you decide when and where to get WHMIS 2015 training.
Although there is a phase in period, it is important to know that workers need to be trained now if products labelled with new WHMIS 2015 Global Harmonized System (WHMIS 2015 GHS) symbols are present in the workplace. NLCSA offers a choice of in-class or online WHMIS 2015 training.
