Last month, WorkplaceNL announced that the average base assessment rate for the construction industry for 2016 would be $2.02 per $100 of assessable payroll. This represents a 12% decrease over the previous year and, in fact, the average assessment rate in the construction industry is less than half what is was 10 years ago. Furthermore, the base rate in the construction industry is substantially lower than the average provincial rate of $2.20 across all industries. This speaks volumes for the advancements made in construction safety, especially given the dramatic increase in activity that the local construction industry has seen over the last ten years.
Let’s continue to work together to continue improving safety within our industry.
